14th Street Eats

Lupo Verde

14th street in D.C. boasts one of the best stretches of restaurants and bars in the city.  When I first moved to D.C., I was amazed at how consistently crowded every restaurant was on 14th.  From Le Diplomate, a French cafe that looks like it is straight off of the streets of Paris , to Barcelona, which is a Spanish tapas restaurant with an amazing patio and an awesome drink menu (get the whiskey root!), there is no shortage of outstanding restaurants to choose from.

One of our absolute favorites is Lupo Verde.  Lupo Verde serves rustic, authentic Italian fare.  Every time we visit Lupo Verde, we have such a great experience.  The food is incredible and the staff is out of this world.  Every single time we have dined at Lupo Verde, our server has been knowledgable and just a pleasure to get to know during our dining experience.  Now on to the food!

To start, you MUST get a cheese and salumi board.  See the photos below and you’ll understand why.  Not only is the food itself amazing, but it is SO beautiful!  Every time that we’ve been to Lupo Verde, we let our server pick our cheeses and meats for the board, and we have yet to be let down.  Give me the cheese and salumi board with a glass of wine and I am a happy girl.  It’s that good.  As for entrees, hands down the best pasta dish on their menu is the Strozzapreti, which includes asparagus, speck, burrata, and heirloom tomatoes.  The pasta alone is outstanding.  You can taste the freshness and know it was just made in the kitchen.  Also pictured below is the Orecchiette, which includes homemade orecchiette pasta, heirloom tomatoes, eggplant, shallots, house made sausage, and barilotto di bufala – also amazing.  You really can’t go wrong with any of their dishes.

Every time we have an out-of-town visitor in town, we always take them to Lupo Verde, and it never disappoints.
