Casual Style at Aspen North | Thoughts on My Dream Home

Living in the actual District of Columbia has a lot of perks, but spacious living isn’t one of them.  On a beautiful day last month I had the pleasure of taking a 45 minute drive outside of D.C. to the lovely town of Frederick, Maryland (specifically New Market, MD) to see what exactly the suburbs have to offer, and if you guessed spacious living, you guessed right.  I checked out Aspen North, a new development by Miller & Smith, and visited downtown Frederick for the first time!

My Dream Home

When I think of my dream home, I think of a bright and airy space with lots of warmth and happiness flowing through it.  A space where I truly enjoy being and a space where friends and family feel at home.

At the top of my wishlist, which I think is pretty practical, would be a dedicated office.  With the blog and my contracts business, I spend a lot of time working at home.  To have an inspiring space where all the creative juices could flow would be ideal!

Anyone that knows me knows that I thrive off of sunny, warm weather.  Call me crazy, but the weather, particularly the sunshine, has a huge impact on my mood.  Having a home with bright, sun filled rooms would be a dream!  Any home lacking lots of natural light is a deal breaker for me.

My ideal home has a cozy and casual but chic feel to it.  I love a grand living room, eat-in-kitchen combination.  Throw in a giant billowy white couch, and I might never leave!  I love the idea of the kitchen being the heart of the home.  A place where everyone gathers for dinner and for special occasions.  A space where I would enjoy cooking and baking on a regular basis!

If you’ve ever popped over to my About Me page, then you know I have this thing for water.  My absolute dream would be to live on or near the water.  There’s just something about a lake or the ocean that clears my head.

I grew up having a bayou in my back yard and never missed a summer trip down to the gulf coast.  Being able to take a quick walk or run by the water during the day or in the evenings during the summertime at my own home would be perfection!

When talking about my dream home, the phrase “location, location, location” always pops in my head.  I love to be in the action.  I love having shops and restaurants and things to do nearby.  Being able to meet a friend for coffee or cocktails is super important to me!  While I love the feel of living on a quiet street, in a calm neighborhood, I also love the idea of not being too far from the hustle and bustle of town.

Along with being able to meet friends out and about, I also want to have space in my home to entertain family and friends on football Saturdays, holidays, and random weekends with dinner parties!  My dream would be to have a casual eat-in dining room that gives the feel of gathering in the kitchen while still being able to accommodate and seat a large group of people without having to resort to a stuffy, formal dining room.

this is a GORGEOUSS space! Totally love the white kitchen and such too!

You’ll get your dream house one day, lady! I felt like I had mine (sunshine, in DC close to restos, dedicated office, yard) and now I’ve had to readjust to apartment living and the small spaces it comes with – forgot how hard it is!

The white kitchen is sooo gorgeous! Apartment living definitely takes adjusting too, but I also like having a small space for the sole reason that it makes you decide what “stuff” is really important – no room for clutter!
