Rent the Runway Unlimited Subscription
Like I mentioned, I’ve used Rent the Runway for years. Mostly for special occasions like weddings or Mardi Gras balls. However, more recently, I’ve been using their new-ish subscription service, Rent the Runway Unlimited! Rent the Runway now offers everyday pieces along with dresses and accessories for special occasions! Today I’m sharing all the details about the Unlimited service with you!
How It Works
First up, how it works! Here are the basics:
- SELECT 4+ STYLES: Build your shipment from a selection of designer styles for work, weekends, and special occasions!
- SWAP ANYTIME: When you’re ready for something new, choose what to return (or you can choose to buy at discount!) to start your next shipment. You can swap out one item, two items, all four, however many you choose!
- FREE SHIPPING & DRY CLEANING: Free shipping (both ways) and RTR handles all of the cleaning! And covers rental insurance too.
When you first sign up, you’ll be billed your monthly fee (usually it’s $159/month – use my discount code, RTRASHLEE, for $100 off your first two months (or $50 off each month)! You can easily check your billing date under the My Account tab.
Next, you’ll choose 4 pieces to be shipped (for free) straight to you! You can choose more than 4 pieces, however, additional fees apply if you exceed 4 pieces at one time. Once your pieces arrive, keep each piece for as long or short of a period as you like! You can send back one piece and swap it out for another pick from Rent the Runway’s website or swap out all 4 at one time – it’s all up to you!
Your subscription will automatically renew every month, however, like I mentioned above, you can see your bill date under My Account. So long as you cancel the membership before the bill date, your credit card will not be charged. There’s also an option to put the subscription on hold for one month. I often do this if I have a slow month (where I won’t need any new pieces).
FAQs
- Which types of pieces can I rent with Unlimited?
Choose from nearly everything on the Rent the Runway website, including dresses, tops, skirts, handbags, jewelry, outerwear and more. Exceptions include, but are not limited to: bridal and vintage accessories, any dresses with a retail price of $3000+, and items from select designers.
- How will I billed for Unlimited?
Rent the Runway will charge you a monthly membership fee. Your Unlimited membership automatically renews and you will be billed on the same date every month at the rate then in effect to your payment method on file. You can cancel anytime prior to the next billing cycle by contacting the Member Concierge at 1-800-509-0842.
- What happens if I lose or damage a piece?
Your membership fee includes insurance for minor mishaps and general wear and tear. Significant damage, lost pieces and theft are not covered. In those cases, you will be charged the price to purchase the piece using your members-only discount. In the event that the style is not available to purchase, the charge will be for the full retail price, plus applicable tax.
- What is the members-only discount? Love your rental? Most Unlimited pieces are available to buy at a discount off the retail price. You can purchase pieces you have at home online and in the app. Once your purchase is complete, a spot will open up in your Unlimited account for something new!
My Thoughts – Is it worth it? – YES!
To me, it’s totally worth the subscription. Here’s why. I use Rent the Runway Unlimited when I have a bunch of upcoming social events (not necessarily special, dressy occasions). Personally, I like having something “new” to wear out and about whether that be to a rehearsal dinner or wedding or to a brewery on Saturday. I like Unlimited because it allows me to take chances on pieces that I might not normally buy on my own. Like this Tibi dress! Or this jumpsuit (I recently rented this piece and I LOVE it!). The pieces are fun for a wear or two, but ultimately, I don’t need them in my closet full time.
I also love that it cuts down on the consumption lifestyle. I feel better about renting gently used pieces for occasions as opposed to buying a new piece for every single outing.
The service is extremely convenient! I love how fast the shipping is (usually 2 days) and I love that I can swap out any piece or pieces quickly and choose new pieces to arrive right to my doorstep within a week’s time! (If you’re in a city that has a physical Rent the Runway store, you can swap out pieces directly at the store!)
The way I use Rent the Runway Unlimited is that I keep my account open for months that I have a lot going on. When I have a slow social outings month, I’ll either pause my account or cancel it all together. There’s no fee associated with canceling or reactivating your account, so you can cancel and reopen it whenever you please!
