3 Morning Rituals to Jump Start the Day

3 Morning Rituals - Cobalt Chronicles - Washington DC Style Blogger - 3 Morning Rituals to Jump Start the Day by popular Washington DC lifestyle blogger Cobalt Chronicles

You may remember a few months ago when I shared 3 Steps to Become a Morning Person, which included a bit of my morning routine.  I love my mornings.  No matter if it’s a weekday or the weekend, mornings are definitely my favorite part of the day.  Part of what makes the morning my favorite time of day is that I know what’s coming.  No surprises.  A slow start with a pretty set routine.

I have several morning rituals that I follow, specifically during the week, each morning.  Having a routine and morning rituals helps me to start the day feeling relaxed and focused.  Today I’m sharing 3 morning rituals that I use to jump start my day.  Hopefully you can take some inspiration away from this post to implement or tweak or just reflect on your own morning rituals!

Morning Rituals – No Cell Phone

Real talk, I’m pretty much glued to my phone for most of the day/night.  It’s part of my job.  But every morning I try my best to stay away from my phone and the bombardment of notifications from the time my alarm goes off until after I’ve eaten breakfast and knocked out a few items on my to-do list.

A couple of reasons for this ritual:

  1. I enjoy NOT knowing what’s going on in the world for just a few hours;
  2. Social media can be a time suck; and
  3. My phone has a way of immediately putting my brain and thoughts into overdrive.

I like to avoid all three of these things early in the morning and focus on quiet time, coffee, and writing (this is the time of day when I accomplish most of my blog post writing).

Morning Rituals –  Nespresso + Vital Proteins Coffee Routine

I always receive questions about my morning coffee concoction.  I have a pretty set routine when it comes to my coffee in the morning.  I’ve had my Nespresso machine for almost a year now, and I’m not quite sure how I lived without it before then.  I have the Nespresso Virtuoline machine, which makes both regular size cups of coffee as well as espresso.  This particular model comes with a milk frother, which in my opinion is a must.  This is the newer version of my machine (mine is an older model that they no longer make).

For my morning coffee ritual, I’ll either make a regular cup of coffee or an espresso with frothed milk.  I add a touch of Truvia, a splash of cream, and one scoop of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides.  I receive a lot of questions about this product.  For me, I’ve definitely noticed a difference in the strength of my nails from taking the Vital Proteins.  I also take it in the morning because it gives me a much needed protein boost first thing in the morning (18 grams in 2 scoops).  The powder adds absolutely no taste to my coffee and does not change the texture at all (if it did, I wouldn’t use it).

For me, my morning coffee ritual is one that I look forward to.  If it’s not coffee for you, find one morning ritual that you really look forward to each morning.  It will help you to focus on something you enjoy about the mornings!

Morning Rituals – Breakfast, Always

Before getting to work on my to-do list (blog post writing, emails, etc.), I always eat breakfast.  Another morning ritual I really enjoy – who doesn’t like to eat?! 😉  No matter what, I always eat something first thing in the morning.  Whether it’s toast, yogurt, or fruit, I put something in my body first thing to keep me going for the first few hours of the day.

I wake up pretty early (around 5am) so I tend to eat something smaller first thing in the morning, and then I usually snack on cereal or another piece of fruit a bit later (around 10am).

I don’t think I have to tell you how important breakfast is in jump starting your day.  It’s an immediate boost to your metabolism.  If breakfast isn’t already one of your morning rituals, definitely consider adding it in as one.

What are your morning rituals?!  I love hearing how other people start their day!  Share yours in the comments below!

I love hearing about others mornings too!! I wake up around then too, usually go on a run or volunteer (which involves running) then come back and get ready for the day, then sit down to answer emails and write blog posts. I always end with quiet time which helps me to have the right mindset for the day 🙂

Thanks Stephanie! I love my mornings. Getting up much earlier than when I actually need to be out the door helps me to feel really accomplished early on during the day, which is a great feeling. I’ll definitely do a “nighttime” routine type post – thanks for the suggestion! I try to get in bed before 10:30. Getting more sleep is something I definitely need and want to work on!
