Life Lately: Summertime on the Horizon
I can’t believe it’s already May. Even more mind blowing, Weldon is almost finished with his second year of school. He’ll be in Pre-K3 next year, which is just wild. Spring time is my favorite time of year in New Orleans. We’ve been soaking up the gorgeous weather since early March and doing our best to enjoy all of the fun events festival season brings to NOLA this time of year. There’s always an excitement in the air once March hits and the weather starts to make its turn. Crawfish season, festivals galore, patio weather, the Zurich golf tournament, and inevitably, lots of end of the school year events.
With summertime on the horizon, I’m preparing for a shift in our routine that we’ve become accustomed to over the last nine months. I feel like I’m being pulled in different directions and having to prepare for both less time with Weldon as he’ll be attending all-day camp in June (he’s been in half-day school this year) and all the time with him as we’re traveling for the entire month of July! Motherhood is funny. I’m sad that our half-day school days seem to be coming to an end while at the same time so excited for him to be able to spend all day with his friends at school and selfishly excited to get back into a solid workday routine.
But alas, it’s summertime after all, which means some true time away from school should be had! In the midst of battling last year’s brutal heat here in New Orleans, we decided that this summer we wanted to escape for a bit. We planned and booked travel for the entire month of July. We’ve had this trip booked for almost a year now, so we’ve had lots of time to prepare and plan. Thankfully, both Michael and I are able to work from anywhere so we’re able to make this work for our family. I’m excited and nervous about being away for that long, but mostly excited. I know it’ll be an adventure! I’ll be sharing more about our trip once we have our cities nailed down so stay tuned!
In the meantime, I’m soaking up the last two weeks of the school year and looking forward to end of school ice cream parties, water days, and mom happy hours!
