I can hardly believe it’s that time of year! I love everything about the holidays, including the outfits! Looking at my calendar, I have several parties in New Orleans planned for the holiday season plus family outings and all the Christmas events with our son. And then the actual holiday week festivities themselves.
For holiday outfits, I like to plan ahead. I make notes in my calendar of all of our holiday events so I know what outfits I need to plan out. Having plenty of time to shop around for the perfect pieces and having them in my closet, ready to go for all of the holiday events makes the holiday season a little less stressful, and it makes the shopping process fun!
I rounded up lots of Christmas outfit ideas to get you through the holiday season. I included a few travel outfits, a handful of casual looks that would be perfect for a low key lunch with family or festive outings with your kids, and a few dressier Christmas outfits that you can easily wear to church, dinner, and out for drinks!

Holiday Travel Outfit Ideas
This holiday season I’ll be splitting time between New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport. So I’ll be shlepping all across Louisiana by car this holiday season. In years past when we were living in Washington, DC, I flew home to Shreveport and to Baton Rouge to celebrate the holidays. I kind of love airports during the holiday season! They’re always dressed to impressed and everyone is in some sort of holiday spirit (for better or worse).
Whether I’m traveling by plane, train, or automobile, I like to feel put together when traveling for the holidays. The easiest and comfiest way to achieve this look is a matching set. I linked a few of my favorites below and included styling inspiration too. I personally love the layered look. Add these socks, my go-to sneakers, a scarf, and a long cardigan, and you’re all set.
Casual Holiday Outfit Ideas
When planning my casual holiday outfits, I’m thinking of holiday lunches, Christmas celebrations at my son’s school, family outings like The Polar Express or Celebration in the Oaks (if you’re local to New Orleans), and casual family gatherings. For a fun girls’ holiday lunch I have on tap, I’m planning to wear a version of this turtleneck, these velvet pants, and these heels. Our family has tickets to The Polar Express (in New Orleans, but I believe it’s offered at different Amtrak locations all over the country). I’m planning to wear a fun and festive sweater like this one paired with cream colored jeans and fun flats.
Dressy Festive Christmas Outfit Ideas
Dressy Christmas outfits are my absolute favorite. I love nothing more than an excuse to wear something fun and festive and pair it with my favorite dressy heels. For these looks, I’m thinking cocktails with friends, adult-only holiday parties, Christmas Eve mass followed by dinner with friends and family. At the top of my list is this bright red dress with feather adornments on the sleeves. Paired with these gold heels and these earrings, perfect Christmas outfit! I also love this green jacquard dress.
