Week In Review

This week was an extremely short one! I took Memorial Day off to spend the day with Michael, and I’m heading to Shreveport early this morning (Friday) to celebrate a wedding this weekend! Even though the week was cut short, it actually didn’t feel too rushed! I purposefully didn’t plan much on the social front so I’d have time to check all of my to-dos off before hitting the road.

Monday

I had a relaxing Memorial Day. We grabbed coffee & bagels at one of our favorite neighborhood spots, Golden Bagels & Coffee, and I worked on the framing portion of my house updates that I mentioned in Wednesday’s blog post. Picking out art and photos and framing takes forever!

I rarely see movies in theater, but when I saw the remake of Aladdin was opening this past weekend, I knew I wanted to see it immediately! Michael and I caught a matinee showing of it on Monday, and since we rarely go to the movies, we went all out! We stopped by CVS beforehand to grab Junior Mints and Sour Patch kids and even splurged on popcorn at the theater. The movie was so cute! If you’re a fan of the original Disney movie, you’ll love this one too!

With Spotify’s Disney Hits playlist blaring, we made bunless burgers, sweet potato fries, and salads for dinner, and I made homemade whipped cream for the first time to enjoy with fresh berries. I’m so confused as to why I ever bought Cool Whip – making homemade whipped cream was so easy! I used 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, 2 tbsp powdered sugar, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract. I put my mixing bowl and whisk in the freezer for 15 minutes, then added all of the ingredients, and used my KitchenAid mixer on medium/high to whip up the cream. It takes a few minutes for peaks to form, but the end product was delicious!

Tuesday

On Tuesday I shared a review of the Everlane Linen Jumpsuit – spoiler alert – it’s amazing! I love the fit and the quality is perfection! I’ve been a fan of Everlane for years, but I’m especially loving everything they’ve been putting out lately!

I got back into my routine after the holiday weekend and started Tuesday off with a morning workout at the gym. I spent most of my day in my home office getting back to work. One of my favorite things to do when I’m at home working for most of the day is pop on a podcast for background noise. This week I listened to Merritt Beck‘s interviews (there’s two) on Be There In 5, Katherine Power‘s interview on Second Life, and I never miss an episode of Grace & Becca‘s Bad on Paper podcast! Drop your podcast recommendations in the comments below! I’m always looking for new ones!

Wednesday

On Wednesday I shared my May recap post. I love putting my monthly recap posts together as it gives me a chance to look back at the month, see what posts you loved the most, and see what items you clicked on and purchased!

I’m on a roll with the morning gym workouts – I squeezed one in Wednesday morning before working from home for the majority of the day. I met Alex at SoulCycle to end the day with a SoulActivate class (Soul’s version of a HIIT class).

Thursday

Thursday turned out to be a bit more exciting than I originally planned for the week – I filmed and published my first IGTV video and YouTube video! I compared my two Away carry-on bags – the Original and the Bigger Carry-On. You can check out the video and subscribe to my YouTube channel here!

Weekend Plans

Michael and I are heading to Shreveport (my hometown) for a wedding weekend! Michael’s cousin and his fiancé actually live in Shreveport and are getting married there this weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing my family and friends and also spending time with Michael’s side of the family as well! It’s always nice when everyone’s in one spot!

Favorite Things This Week

Away Carry-On Bag // Yes, I’m still obsessed with my Away bag. I’ve been an Away loyalist since 2016 (see this post), and every time I travel I’m reminded of how much I love my bags, especially the Bigger Carry On (see my comparison of the Original vs. the Bigger Carry On here). It’s the best luggage, hands down.

Follain No. 1 Candle // Like I mentioned in Wednesday’s blog post, I’m making more of an effort to rid our house of potentially harmful products. I love burning candles, however, I recently learned that most candles are made of paraffin wax, which when you burn, creates the same toxins in the air you’d find in diesel fumes! Most candles also often contain synthetic fragrance, which is a no go for me. Follain is one of my favorite places to shop for clean skincare and makeup products. They also have their own line of products, including home products like my new favorite candle! I’ve been burning the No. 1 candle non-stop. It’s free of any potentially harmful chemicals – it’s ingredients are hydrogenated soy oil, coconut oil, cotton seed oil, and an essential oil blend for scent. A great non-toxic option for us candle lovers!

Everlane Tread Sneakers // I shared this pair of sneakers on Instagram Stories last week, and I’m working on a blog post featuring different ways to style them. They’re certainly a throwback to the 90s, but I love them! They’re a bit chunky, but so fun! And really comfortable. I recommend sizing one size up from your usual shoe size. I snagged them in Blush. They’re available in 6 other colors!

Have a great weekend!
