I get tons of questions on what to wear to work, and if I’m being completely honest, workwear is one of my least favorite things to shop for. Work clothes are one thing that I’m just really not a fan of spending my money on, which when I think about it, is really silly since I go to work every single day!
Last week, I hit a sweet spot and genuinely loved everything I wore to work (this rarely happens). I’ve been making an effort to incorporate more of my “weekend” pieces into my work wardrobe so that I feel more like myself at the office but, of course, still professional. Just to give you a little background, I used to work at a law firm where the dress was pretty conservative. Now that I work in the legal publishing world, it’s a bit more relaxed, but still business casual.
As much as I hate to admit it, I think it’s definitely worth investing in a few staple pieces for work that you can build around. For example, a great pair of black J. Crew pants like the Martie are my go to. I can always throw on a blouse and loafers and feel put together. I also love wearing dresses to work, especially during the warmer months. One piece and you’re out the door!
I’ve rounded up my favorite workwear pieces for you below – what to wear to work to feel like yourself while still looking professional! And most of the tops can certainly be worn over the weekend too (double win!).
Tops
Blazers/Jackets
Pants
Skirts
Dresses
Such a cute look on you! I love J Crew for work pants, and agree – it’s not as fun to shop for as other categories in my closet. C’est la vie!

Thanks Katie! J. Crew pants are the best I’ve found so far for work! The pixie pant is a gloried legging, and I love it!
