Week In Review

Anyone else still thrown off on what day of the week it is? I swear I thought it was Monday on about three different days this week. I’m hoping the weekend serves as a nice reset.

As much as I love a good, long break, it was great to get back to work this week! The short week was a nice way to ease back in.

Monday

Michael and I flew back from Louisiana on Sunday evening so I got a bit of a late start on Monday. I took my last SoulCycle class of 2018, and we checked a couple of things off of our wedding to-do list like picking up our guest book and ordering Michael’s wedding band! I’m excited to share what we’re doing for our guest book with y’all as it’s a bit different but really fitting for our personalities!

Monday was NYE, which is my LEAST favorite “holiday” of the year. So much pressure to do something FUN. I’m always just getting back in town from visiting family over the holidays, and frankly, I’m usually not in the mood to drink and eat all that much since I typically let loose on my drinking and eating habits over the holidays at home.

This year Michael and I were still deciding on plans at 4:00PM … we ended up walking to Compass Rose on 14th Street near our neighborhood and getting two seats at the bar. Compass Rose is one of my favorite restaurants in the DC area. It’s so chill, the food is amazing, the drinks are delicious, and the staff is always so nice. We drank good wine, had amazing food, chatted with the bartender (who gave us a complimentary NYE shot and a glass of champagne), and a friend of ours stopped by for a pre-midnight drink. We made it home just in time to catch some of Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen’s shenanigans and watch the ball drop in Times Square at midnight. It ended up being such a fun night!

Tuesday

I kicked New Year’s Day off with a 90-minute SoulCycle ride. If you’re not familiar, the normal classes are 45 minutes. It was CHALLENGING to say the least, but I felt so accomplished afterwards! Such a great way to kick off the new year!

Our internet happened to be out for most of the day on Tuesday, which I was annoyed by, but because of it, I actually ended up getting a lot of tasks done around the house instead of sitting on my computer all day.

Wednesday

I eased back into work, both for Cobalt Chronicles and Contracts for Creatives, on Wednesday. It was really nice to get back in a work groove. I published 5 Ways to Jumpstart the New Year here on the blog where I shared a few things I’m doing in the next few weeks to really set a tone for the year to come.

As our wedding is quickly approaching, and I feel like I just need a big reset after the holidays, I decided to double up on my workouts a few days a week. On Wednesday morning I tried out YogaWorks for the first time and LOVED it! I took a 7AM class, which was such a great way to start the day! After working at home for most of the day, I ended my day with a SoulCycle ride.

I also launched a little detox series on Instagram Stories – #12daysofdetox – where I’m sharing one thing everyday that I’m doing to detox! Day 1 was *SWEAT* and Day 2 was switching out my moisturizer to a clean, non-toxic moisturizer, Beautycounter’s Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion. Follow along on Stories to see what today’s #12daysofdetox feature!

Thursday

On Thursday I shared the 10 Most Read Blog Posts of 2018. It was really fun to dig into my Google Analytics to see which posts drove the most traffic this year! It also always amazes me that my Away bag review post is consistently the post that drives the most traffic to my blog!

I did another double on Thursday – a lunchtime yoga class at YogaWorks and a nighttime SoulCycle ride at the 14th Street studio!

Weekend Plans

As I’m looking at my planner, I have two things written down for this weekend: yoga and SoulCycle. Am I predictable or what? I have a lot of to-dos on my plate to knock out prior to leaving town in a couple of weeks so I’ll likely be hunkered down at home working through those items.

I hope you have more fun weekend plans – have a marg for me! 😉

Favorite Things This Week

Beautycounter Plumping Facial Oil // For some reason I didn’t pack any of my face oils when I went home for the holidays. I’ve been applying my face oils every night, and they have been doing WONDERS for my skin. I legitimately forgot I had applied it one night after a shower when I went to put moisturizer on before bed and said out loud, WOW my skin is SO smooth! And then I remembered I had applied the oil a few hours earlier! If you’re new to face oils, I HIGHLY recommend trying out this “Glow & Go” mini set by Beautycounter! It includes small, travel sizes of the Plumping Oil, a Brightening Oil, and a Balancing Oil! I love them all!

Voluspa Mokara Candle // Michael’s sister gave me the Mokara scented Voluspa candle for Christmas, and I haven’t stopped burning it since I got back home! It’s a beautiful, white candle with such a clean fresh scent! It’s the perfect light and airy scent to clear out all of the holiday funk that now just feels leftover.

Brixton Straw Hat // I’ve been eyeing this straw hat for what seems like forever! I could never bite the bullet to spend $50 on a hat. Of course in the process of NOT buying it, I spent more money on flimsy, less expensive hats while I should have just opted for this one in the first place! Since I’ll be spending the last two weeks of January at the beach, I decided to bite the bullet, and oh my goodness! I love this hat! It’s sturdy and fits perfectly! I can’t wait to wear it on the beach in a few weeks! For sizing reference, I have an XS.

Have a great weekend!
