Away Carry On Bag

Away carry on bag review by popular Washington DC style blogger Cobalt Chronicles

You may remember this post where I mentioned I was in the market for a new carry on bag, especially since I always make a point to travel with only my carry on items!  This Away Carry On bag was on my narrowed down list of bags that I was eyeing, and I ended up lucking out when Away offered to send me one of their new bags to try out!

Away Carry On Bag

I’ll be completely honest with you, when this Away carry on arrived I thought it looked extremely small.  I was worried I wouldn’t be able to pack one night’s worth of clothes much less a weekend’s worth or longer in the bag.  So last week when I decided to pack up for a long weekend in Seattle, I gave it a run for its money.

I packed a pair of heeled boots, L.L. Bean boots, and my Nike running shoes along with a pair of jeans, six tops, two sweaters, two jackets (denim and down), a huge shawl, and a blanket scarf.  Plus the essential undergarments.  And it ALL fit in my Away carry on!

I had enough clothes with me to last a good five days.  And keep in mind, I was packing for chilly weather, packing for a warm weather trip would be no problem at all!

Unique Features

The Away carry on bag has two unique features on the inside that help to compress the clothes.  On one side, a zip feature and on the other, a double buckle system.  In addition to the bag holding all of my necessities, I also really love how light weight it is even with its hard shell.  The four wheels are a necessity on any carry on bag in my opinion.  Another cool feature, it has a lock system on it that is TSA approved so if you do have to check your bag, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that it’s securely locked.

For me to really love a bag, it has to be tough.  I’m rough on my bags.  Especially these days when 99% of the time  I’m traveling from DC and have to drag my bag about a mile down the city sidewalks to catch the metro to the airport.  I’ve only tested the Away carry on bag out on this one trip so far, but it stood up to the test!

The real kicker of this Away carry on?! … There’s a built in charging port on the bag!  There are two USB ports so you can easily charge your phone and/or computer while you’re traveling!  Genius!

I opted for the carry on bag, but Away offers larger bags (the Bigger Carry On, Medium, and Large bags), and they’re available in tons of different colors!  I went with the navy and love it!

* Update – I’ve since added the Bigger Carry On to my collection.  Check out my comparison of the bags here!*

Loooove it! Agree re: being durable enough to handle dragging through city streets + the metro…that’s the true test! So glad you found a worthy replacement 🙂

Thanks friend! I was worried when I was dragging it down the street (concrete, bricks, gravel etc.), but it definitely held its own!
