Contracts for Creatives

I’m so excited to share a new venture of mine with you today!  I’ve mentioned it a few times over on Twitter and shared it with my newsletter subscribers, but now I’m putting it out there for all to see!

Many of you may already know this, but if you don’t, I’m an attorney by profession. I practiced law at a large, regional law firm in Birmingham, Alabama for a few years before moving to Washington, D.C.  While I no longer practice law, I still use my law degree at my current 9 to 5, where I’m a legal editor for a global publishing company.

Over the past few months, I’ve been helping out fellow bloggers and creatives (florists, photographers etc.) with a variety of contract work such as contract templates, custom contracts, and contract review, simply through word of mouth referrals.

But now it’s official, I have a website!  I launched ashleehightower.com, my contracts-for-creatives site, a couple of weeks ago.  Through this blog, I quickly realized the importance of contracts in the creative community.  Whether that be blogger + brand contracts, blogger + photographer contracts, or a host of other working relationships where contracts are needed, my peers were constantly struggling with either not having a contract at all and turning a blind eye to it or creating a makeshift contract that they assumed would suffice in each particular work relationship. My goal is to make life easier by providing bloggers and creatives with an easy to use contract template or a custom contract for a specific collaboration or campaign.

You should always protect what you’ve worked so hard to create!
