Spoiler alert: My sleeveless kimono is actually this Cabi Shirt Dress unbuttoned!
Nonetheless, one of my favorite trends this spring and summer is kimonos. I love the light, layered look. When I got this long shirt dress in from Cabi, I knew I wanted to style it as a kimono! Kimonos can be intimidating as it’s a lot of fabric to handle, but if you pair it with the right pieces, you’re sure to have a fun, elevated look.
How to Wear a Sleeveless Kimono
To keep the look of a sleeveless kimono light and airy, you’ll want to pair it with a sleeveless shirt. With the bold print, I chose to layer mine over an otherwise all-white look. A white, cotton sleeveless tank is easy to layer underneath. Since the kimono adds a bit of volume, I tucked in my top to create more of a tailored look underneath.
I paired the white tank with a new pair of AG jeans. I’ve been looking for a great pair of distressed white jeans and this pair fit the bill! They’re high-waisted, have a bit of stretch, and are slightly distressed at the knees and on the hem. The length is technically “ankle” length, but on me, they fit more like a long jean (I’m 5’4″ for reference). Otherwise, they fit true to size.
To keep with the neutral theme, letting the kimono shine, I threw on a pair of tan espadrille wedges. You’re going to want to pair the kimono with a bit of a heel so it doesn’t look like the kimono is swallowing you whole. These particular wedges are old Soludos, but I found this super similar pair and I LOVE this taller pair too!
Last but not least, I paired the kimono with a bag that brings out a few of the colors in the kimono. I’ve been loving this Fossil bag lately. The color is perfect for spring, and I like its unique shape!

This kimono is SO great on you! Love how it adds another level to your look!
The Champagne Edit
Thanks Dana! Love the layered look but it’s so hard to find something that’s light enough for summer temps! The sleeveless kimono does the trick!
I have tried this look several times… I look like a short Catholic Priest! You wear this look very well, so pretty!
haha I hardly believe it! Try a pair of higher wedges next time!
One of my favorite looks of yours EVER!!

Making a girl blush! Thanks so much Morgan!!
I love that this is a top unbuttoned! I’ve been living in kimonos + unbuttoned denim shirts as I’m 21 weeks pregnant and not a ton fits! Might have to play around with a version of this look! XOXO
Ah I love that idea for dressing for pregnancy! Love the kimono look!
