Why Unplugging and Taking a Break is Important

Fall Style Tie Front Top

You may have noticed that I went pretty silent, except on Instagram, after my blog post last Wednesday.  I had every intention of posting my Week In Review post on Friday and even had a post planned for Thursday.  But I flew down to Destin, Florida on Thursday to meet my family for our annual beach vacation, and I decided that family beach time was more important.

When I’m in D.C., I’m going non-stop all the time, which I actually really enjoy!  Most of the time.  I constantly have that rushed feeling, where I’m trying to make use of every minute of every day.  And a lot of that time is either spent on my computer or on my phone.  As a blogger, it’s my job to keep up with social media.  I love keeping up with readers and engaging with you guys through the comments on this blog, Instagram, Instagram Stories, Facebook, and Twitter.  It’s one of my favorite things about blogging!  But trying to keep up with it all does become a bit exhausting every once in a while.

That’s when unplugging becomes important.  As you know, I love to travel.  And so does Michael.  When we’re visiting new places, we try to keep a balance between really taking in the moment and capturing the moment for the blog.  I obviously think it’s important to be in the moment and put down my phone, but at the same time, I love capturing our travels on film and video so that we have something to look back on and remember all of the amazing places that we’ve been fortunate enough to visit.  And who doesn’t love a good outfit shoot with an amazing backdrop?! 😉

But when I’m with my family, especially when I’m home in Shreveport or in this case, on our annual beach trip, I feel less pressure to shoot blog photos, keep up with social media etc.  My mom and dad, sister and brother in law, all live in Shreveport, so I don’t get to spend as much time with them as I’d like.  Over the long weekend, I put down my phone and, for the most part, stayed off  of my computer.  I slept in and spent the entire day Friday and Saturday on the beach soaking up family time.  It’s important to take a step back from all of the craziness every once in a while and refill your tank.  It’s a necessity for me!  A couple of days of 8+ hours of sleep, family time, laughing so hard that I cried (several times), and just being by the water … all things that are good for the soul!

What I’m Wearing

On to a little blurb about this outfit, which has nothing to do with the beach or unplugging, but I wanted to share it with you nonetheless!  With Labor Day right around the corner, I’m ready to start dressing for fall!  This look easily transitions into the new season!  I LOVE this tie front top.  I’ve received so many compliments on it!  It’s available in black and a mauve color as well.  It’s also a great price – under $40!  I paired it with a new pair of distressed denim and my favorite blush sandals (technically, rose suede).

To top off the look, I added a few simple accessories including this cuff bracelet, ring, and tassel earrings.  I picked up this new tote bag for fall.  I really love the steel blue color!
