Tips for a Stress Free Travel Day

Tips for a Stress Free Travel Day

I’m a planner, there’s no doubt about that, but one of the main reasons I prefer to be organized and plan ahead is because I hate being stressed out.  Travel days can be stressful, but there’s really no reason that most should be.  Anything I can do ahead of time to keep the positive vibes flowing, I’m all about!

With that in mind, today I’m sharing my top tips for a stress free travel day!

  1. Plan Ahead.
    • Look at your calendar and mark the weekend before you leave indicating just that – it will serve as a reminder that you need to get your ish together THAT weekend so you’re not scrambling to pick up last minute necessities, to get your nails done, to return that package that has to be mailed before you leave … you get my drift.
    • Pack the night before.  DO NOT PACK THE MORNING OF YOUR TRAVEL DAY, you WILL forget something.
    • Charge all of your electronics including backup phone batteries.  (These are life savers!)
  2. Think about what you’re going to do on the plane ride ahead of time.
    • Need a book?
    • Need your laptop?  I like to edit photos on longer flights so I always make sure my Macbook is charged!
    • Need to download a podcast?
  3. Allow ample time to not only get to the airport, but to get through security, grab a snack, use the restroom etc.  You don’t want to be rushed right before your flight.
    • I usually aim to get to the airport 1 hour before my flight time.  I have TSA pre-check so if you don’t have that, I’d plan on getting there a little earlier.
  4. Either pack snacks from home or be sure to buy them at the airport.  There’s nothing worse than being hungry – hungry turns to hangry real fast!
    • Tip for a long-haul flight: I filled an entire lululemon bag (basically a small grocery bag) full of snacks for Michael and I on our 14 hour flight to Asia.  That granola bar at about 8 hours in came in pretty handy!
  5. Have an arrival game plan.
    • Basically, know where you’re going.  After traveling, I’m always tired and just want to get to where I’m heading.  Figure out ahead of time how you’re getting from the airport to your destination.  Is Uber or Lyft available?  Do you need to rent a car?  Have a plan.

Hopefully these tips are helpful!  Is there something I missed that you do to make your travel days less stressful?!  Let me know in the comments below!
