Week In Review – Shreveport Edition

Back at my favorite coffee shop in my favorite city!  I’ve spent most of the week at home in Shreveport, Louisiana.  I hadn’t been home since Christmas so a visit was in order!  And I had to get my wedding dress altered.  🙂

Let’s jump right into this week’s week in review, shall we?!

Monday

On Monday I shared my last minute picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale – picks that are all still in stock!  The sale ends this Sunday.  Prices will go back to full-price so be sure to snag anything you’ve been eyeing!  And remember, Nordstrom offers free shipping and returns.  So if you’re on the fence about an item, go ahead and grab it at the sale price.  You can always return it!

I spent Monday at home in D.C. and closed out the day with a sweaty SoulCycle class.  I figured I needed to squeeze one in before being out of town for the remainder of the week!

Tuesday

On Tuesday here on the blog I shared a recap of the Brussels Airlines event that Michael and I recently attended.

I headed to the airport bright and early that day myself to fly home to Shreveport.  I spent the afternoon with my mom and sister, and we met my dad and friends for dinner later that night.  I always have to hit up all of my favorite restaurants while I’m in town so we visited Chicken Salad Chick for lunch and went for 2 for 1 burger night at POTC.  If you’re a Chicken Salad Chick fan, definitely check out NPR’s How I Built This podcast on how the restaurant became a smashing hit.  It’s such a great story!

Wednesday

On Wednesday morning I finally figure out what all the hype is about surrounding Orange Theory Fitness.  I have several friends that are totally obsessed in D.C.  Since there’s no SoulCycle in Shreveport, I decided to give OTF a whirl while I was in town.  It was a great workout!  I liked the mix of cardio and weight training and the group aspect makes it really fun!  After recovering from Orange Theory, I spent the majority of the day at my favorite local coffee shop, Rhino Coffee, getting work done.  I met up with my BFF for dinner that night at a really great, newish taco joint, Ki’ Mexico.

Here on the blog I shared a little recap of June and July plus a few sneak peeks at what’s on tap for August!

Thursday

I tried out another new-to-me workout on Thursday!  I met another one of my BFFs at the brand new YMCA here in Shreveport (they recently closed an older one and built a brand new facility!).  The Y itself is SO nice!  And SO affordable!  If you’re in the Shreveport area and looking for a new gym, I highly recommend checking this one out!  We went to a pilates/yoga combo class aptly called PiYo.  It was a really great workout.  I haven’t done pilates in years so I’m definitely feeling it today!

I laid low at home for most of the day working on blog projects and contract projects for clients.  It was another beautiful day so I spent a bit of time working outside on my parent’s covered patio.  So nice to be able to get some fresh air during the work day!

Weekend Plans

I’m planning on shutting things down a bit early today (Friday) so I’m able to spend the afternoon and evening with my friends and their littles plus dinner with my fam.  I’ll be in Shreveport for the majority of the day on Saturday, but I fly back to D.C. late that afternoon.  Michael and I are having dinner with friends on Sunday night.  It’ll be a nice way to cap off the weekend!

Favorite Things This Week

Blush Knit Cardigan // This cardigan has been one of my most worn pieces this summer.  And it has gotten some major wear this week!  I wore it on the plane and have worn it everyday since I’ve been home!  It’s the only layering piece I brought with me.  It’s perfect to throw on with leggings in the mornings and great to bring along during the day for when it’s chilly working at the coffee shop or a little cool inside a restaurant!  At $25, it’s a steal!

Slower Pace // I never really notice how fast paced D.C. is until I come home.  It has been really nice to have a few days without the hustle and bustle of the city.  Especially during the evening time.  It really feels like summer in the south.  Everyone moves at a bit slower, relaxed pace.  There’s no real hurry to get home early from dinner and the warm sunny evenings seem to last right up until it’s time for bed.

Friends & Family // My mom, dad, sister, and brother-in-law all live in Shreveport plus most of my best friends are here too.  I always leave with a full heart after spending time with everyone at home!
