Last week I shared the Ultimate Holiday Travel Checklist and included my must-have items for travel. Today I’m back with another travel related post! Over the years I’ve learned a thing or two about how to make my travel days go smoothly. Holiday travel can be extra hectic and a bit stressful. Today I’m sharing 5 holiday travel tips to ensure your travel days go as smooth as possible!

Holiday Travel Tips

Pack the Night Before

I don’t care how late it is or how many other things I need to check off of my to-do list, I ALWAYS pack my suitcase the night before traveling. I’m a huge proponent of only traveling with a carry-on bag so packing takes a little more strategic planning. My Away Bigger Carry-On has been a game changer in my ability to pack light. (Check out my Away review here!) I make sure to have all of my in-flight necessities packed neatly in my purse (I usually carry a large purse or my small Herschel backpack).

Plan to Arrive at the Airport Early

My rule of thumb is to always plan on arriving at the airport at least an hour before any flight. Pro Tip: Get TSA Pre-Check ASAP! Every time I travel, the regular security lines seem to be more and more out of control! On the other hand, the TSA Pre-Check lines are a breeze. Bottomline, you don’t want to be rushed upon arrival at the airport so make sure to give yourself ample time to get to the airport and through security.

Pack a Snack in Your Carry-On

I get hannnngry. And it’s not pretty. I always, always, always pack a snack in my carry-on bag. And I pack my Swell bottle (currently on sale!) in my purse or backpack and fill it up with water as soon as I make it through security. If it’s early in the morning, I always like to have time to grab a coffee as the coffee onboard is usually pretty sub-par. There’s nothing worse than getting stuck on a delayed flight, missing a meal, and being hangry on flight.

Wear Comfortable Clothes

I have somewhat of a travel uniform. My number one rule is layer! I swear I’m always either burning up or freezing cold on airplanes. I either wear leggings or comfy jeans paired with some sort of tee and sweater. I ALWAYS bring a scarf. This cashmere wrap has been a lifesaver. Not only is it great for times when I’m freezing, on early morning flights it makes a great pillow! šŸ˜‰ Don’t forget to wear comfy shoes too! My friend from Sydney travels all the time and she never leaves home without a pair of adidas australia sneakers!

Know that Something Might Derail Your Travel Day

Keeping in mind that your day might not go perfectly as planned is always a good thing to remember. Something is bound to happen to throw off your travel day. Know that most derailments are out of your control. Go with the flow and do what you need to do to arrive at your intended destination. A little bit of namaste goes a long way on travel days! šŸ˜‰

I just got back from a Mission Trip to Guatemala. On my to-do list…applying for Global Entry. The regular line for customs back into the States was insane but the people going through Global Entry looked like they had it made. So my advice if you are traveling internationally…Global Entry!

Great advice! I have Global Entry and couldn’t agree more! I witnessed the same thing a few months ago when arriving back into the states. There was no-one in the Global Entry line, while the regular customs line was out of control! Definitely worth the $$$ dollars!
