Preschool Back to School Essentials for Boys

It’s hard to believe the start of a new school year is here! I love back to school season. There’s an excitement in the air for new routines and fresh starts. Weldon is so excited to be back at school. It makes me so happy to see how much he loves his teachers, friends, and classroom.

This is Weldon’s first year going to school for a full school day. He eats lunch and takes a nap at school this year. Growing up too fast!

I rounded up all of our favorite preschool back to school essentials for you, including my favorite places to shop for his clothes, my favorite labels, his nap mat, and our go to water bottles – no leaks!

Back to School Clothes for Toddler Boys

I have a handful of online shops I keep in rotation when buying Weldon new clothes. One of my favorite spots is Classic Whimsy. They have a good selection of boys clothing, the quality is always great, and the prices are reasonable. I grabbed this adorable car + crayon tee and this apple polo for Weldon. They’re perfect for back to school! I also bought this dinosaur tee, this long sleeve train tee, and this airplane tee. All so cute in person! Their pieces run TTS.

For shorts and pants, I LOVE this Etsy shop. I’ve been buying these shorts and pants since Weldon graduated from wearing bubbles and john johns. I order the “short” version of the shorts so that they hit above the knee.

As for shoes, Weldon has wide feet plus he wears braces on his lower legs, which makes shoe shopping challenging. I’ve found that these New Balance velcro sneakers are ideal. They’re stylish, come in lots of colors, and are available in regular, wide, and extra wide! And if you need even more room, I take the inserts out of the extra wide size to make them even wider.

Back to School Organization and Labels

I always keep a stash of these everything labels and these clothing specific labels on hand. Essentially anything that goes to school gets a label. The clothing specific labels are great! They hold up in the wash as advertised.

For his water bottles, we use these bands with his name on them. They’re great! Ours are on year three! They hold up really well (I even leave them on in the dishwasher!).

Back to School Supplies

Weldon’s school requires the children to carry a specific bag, but we use this backpack as our everyday “diaper” bag now. It wipes clean, it’s super spacious, and I love the side pouches and front zipper storage. We also have the matching lunch box.

For lunch, these Bentgo boxes are great! Make sure you get the ones with the ice pack to keep food chilled until lunchtime. These are our go-to water bottles. They don’t leak! They’re easy to clean, and I like that they’re clear (both the bottle and the straw) so I can see if there’s any build up or yuck happening inside.

Weldon takes a nap at school and uses this nap mat. It’s soft and has a removable pillow, which makes it super easy to wash.

Last but not least, this adorable “first” and “last” day of school sign! I always buy one of these at the beginning of the school year to document how much Weldon grows each year. He loves holding his sign for the pics!
