Miami has been on my travel list for a WHILE. Out of all of my travels and Michael’s too, neither of us had ever been to Miami prior to this trip! We enjoy planning at least one warm-weather getaway every January or February. We didn’t get to take this type of trip last year, for multiple reasons (having a newborn + a pandemic). I’m so happy we made it happen this year! In typical Covid-travel-times, we booked this trip pretty last minute. We originally booked a trip to Mexico City for this same weekend but with current Covid testing requirements to get back into the U.S., we thought it would be best to stay domestic as Weldon wasn’t traveling with us (we didn’t want to get stuck away from him for an extended period of time). I’m sharing everything about our quick trip below. We had such a great time and will definitely be making it a regular spot on our list of easy, warm weather getaways!
How We Got There
There are several direct flight options from New Orleans to Miami (MIA) that we’ll hopefully get to take advantage of very soon! Weldon stayed with my parents in Shreveport, so we ended up flying out of Shreveport, which does not have a direct flight to Miami. We flew through Houston. Even with the layover, it was an easy hop down to Miami Beach. The great thing about flying into MIA is that it’s an easy car ride to all of the happening areas. We made it to our hotel in Miami Beach in 15 minutes.
We were only in Miami for a couple of days so we opted to Uber/Lyft everywhere (mainly just to/from the airport and to/from dinner). If you’re planning a longer trip, it might be worth renting a car to be able to check out other areas and suburbs of Miami and even make the drive to Key West for a day or two!
The Confidante Miami Beach Hotel
We stayed at The Confidante Miami Beach hotel, a Hyatt property. It was PERFECT for our stay! We will definitely be back. If you’re into the points and miles game and have access to Chase points and/or Hyatt points, The Confidante has a great point redemption rate. We covered the cost of our three night stay with points (we transferred Chase points to Hyatt for booking).
The Confidante is located directly on the beach. Between the hotel itself and the beach, The Confidante has two pools, one that’s adults only. We had no problem grabbing chairs by the pool each day. The Confidante also offers cabanas by the pool. There’s a pool bar and restaurant, The Backyard, conveniently located in the pool area. We ordered poolside and beachside lunch from The Backyard. The food was actually pretty good!
The Confidante offers beach chairs free to all guests of the hotel (included in the resort fees). There are beach attendants who handle the chairs and umbrellas. In between The Confidante pool area and the beach, there’s a large walking and bike path. We used two of The Confidante bikes (included with your stay) to cruise the path one morning to explore and grab coffee. If you’re interested in using the bikes, I highly recommend grabbing them early as they seemed to be popular during the morning hours.
Where We Ate
We were pretty low key in regards to food on this quick trip to Miami. We took advantage of The Confidante’s breakfast offerings (free with Globalist Hyatt status) and ventured out for coffee via The Confidante bikes one morning to Panther Coffee.
For lunch, we ordered poolside and beachside eats from The Backyard at The Confidante as we didn’t want to waste any time leaving the beach for lunch.
For dinner, we dined at Stiltsville Fish Bar, Abbalé Telavivian Kitchen, and Pubbelly Sushi. I’d say they were all pretty good! None of them blew me out of the water, but we had good experiences at all of them. One thing to note, neither Abbalé nor Pubbelly offer liquor, only wine and beer. Apparently this is a thing in Miami. Who knew?!
