What I’m Packing for Italy!

Michael and I are heading to Italy on Wednesday! (Check out this post on how we scored cheat flights.) It’s somewhat of a short trip because of our work schedules. We’re leaving on Wednesday and will be back in D.C. on Monday night. We’re visiting friends that live just north of Venice in Sacile. We’ll be spending one night there, three nights in Modena, and one night in Rome! Although we’re spending three nights in Modena, we’ll be training to Parma one day and Bologna another day! Basically, we’re hitting all of the foodie cities, and I couldn’t be more excited! Before we jet off we have even been trying to get to grips with the language – so far we have mastered how to say Hello In Italian as well as a few other basic greetings!

Of course I’ll have blog posts on all of our travels, but today I wanted to share what I’m packing for our quick trip! The high temps will be in the mid 70s and the lows will be in the 60s. If you’ve read any of my travel posts, you know that I’m a stickler for traveling with only a carry on bag. I’ll be bringing my Away Bigger Carry On bag along with my Herschel Backpack.

What to Pack for Italy

Like I said, we have two long travel days (DCA<>JFK<>VCE) and (FCO<>DTW<>DCA) plus four days bouncing around Italy. So let’s jump into what I’ll be packing!

Travel Days // Lounge Wear

I like to keep it casual when I travel, especially on long flights! For the flights, I’ll be wearing my favorite Zella leggings, this bra, a soft tee, and a sweater. I’ll have my over-sized cashmere scarf with me to use as a blanket and/or pillow on the flight. In addition to these pieces, I’m packing two extra pairs of leggings (my favorite lululemon pair plus this cropped Splits59 pair). Also packing: sports bra, easy tee (maybe two) for sleep, layering, or throwing on to get coffee.

Tops

We’ll be be-bopping around for four days and four nights. With that in mind, I’m packing eight tops that can easily work for daytime or nighttime activities! I’m also bringing a denim jacket for layering. A few tops that are making the trip …

Bottoms

Along with my leggings, I’m packing three pairs of jeans. My button-fly Madewell jeans, classic black Madewell jeans, and my straight leg Levi’s. All pair perfectly with the tops I’m bringing, and they’re super versatile – great for day outings and nights on the town! I threw in one pair of Levi’s denim shorts just in case it’s warmer than anticipated.

Dress

I think it’s going to be too chilly to wear dresses, but I packed one just in case. I just added this maxi shirt dress to my closet and I’m in love! It’ll be perfect with my denim jacket.

Shoes

Shoes are my packing weakness. However, for this trip, I think I did a pretty good job at pairing them down. I’m wearing my Nike sneakers to travel in and packed my Adidas sneakers, Madewell slingback sandals, and these Splendid sandals. I know we’ll be walking everywhere, so no wedges or heels necessary!

Toiletries

I’m essentially sticking to this toiletry packing list that I shared last summer when Michael and I went to Europe for two weeks. I’m planning on sharing a peek into my toiletry bags at some point during the trip on Instagram Stories so stay tuned!

Accessories

Along with my backpack, I packed this Vera Bradley bag in my carry on. It flattens out easily, which makes it great for packing, but it’s actually really large and holds a lot! It has handles as well as a shoulder strap. Perfect for toting my camera and wallet around during the day!

Electronics

I’ll be bringing my laptop, my DSLR camera along with two lenses (5omm and 10-18mm). Chargers for both, plus iPhone chargers and extra on-the-go chargers are necessary too! I’ll also be bringing my hard drive along in case my photos need to be transferred or if my computer decides to max out on storage while I’m away. The hard drive is more like a security blanket, but it’s small and compact so I don’t mind carrying it along. I also threw in my plug adapters (best Amazon purchase!).

I’m hoping our Airbnb has a blow dryer (most usually do), as I’m just packing my curling wand and hair straightener.

There you have it! And yes, I swear all of this fits in my bigger carry-on and my backpack!
