Well, somehow it’s almost fall! I feel like we just rang in 2020 and now we’re heading into the home stretch of the year. The best time of the year, in my opinion! Fall is perhaps my favorite season and I love, love, love the holidays! With the way 2020 has treated us, I think it’s fair that we should all be able to indulge early in the basic things that make us happy about this time of year, even if those things might be a little premature. Still 95 degrees where you live but you’re craving a pumpkin spice latte? Go for it! Wanting to jam Christmas tunes during your at-home work day? Yes, please! I’m here for all the things that bring joy over the next few months!

Before I get too far ahead, let’s take a look back at August and chat about the blog posts you loved, the items you clicked on the most, and more! If you’re interested in past Monthly Recaps, you can check them out here!

I mentioned in last month’s recap post that Michael and I were planning a weekend getaway to Texas Hill Country. Unfortunately, once again, we had to cancel because of Covid-related issues. Not a huge deal, but I’m CRAVING a trip. Luckily, I was able to squeeze in a long weekend trip home to visit my family in Shreveport. Pictured above. AND fingers crossed this still happens, but we’re planning a trip to the beach in September! We usually make it to the beach at least twice during the summer. This summer obviously has been very different. We haven’t been on any trips since early March besides weekend getaways to our parents’ houses in Louisiana. I’m so looking forward to this beach getaway and really hoping it happens!

Wellness this Month

This month, Michael and I ventured out to a restaurant, actually three(!), for the first time since March. I shared how we’re dining out safely and avoiding crowds in this post! I included this in the “wellness” section because I can’t tell you how much this little win did for our mental health. It’s been so nice to add back in a slice of normalcy into our weekend routines.

Also on the wellness front, I swapped out a handful of our kitchen essentials this month for cleaner, non-toxic products. I have a full blog post on this topic coming your way soon, but as a primer, I swapped out all of our plastic storage containers for glass containers. Swapped our non-stick, teflon coated pots and pans for a new set of ceramic cookware. And got rid of all of our cooking utensils and replaced them with a silicone set. The silicone prevents scraping of the pots and pans, which can lead to unwanted chemical emission.

On the body movement piece of my wellness practice, lately Michael and I have been sticking to our morning at-home Orangetheory classes. Orangetheory is still putting out daily workouts on YouTube (free!). We’ve incorporated yoga in on Fridays via my friend Alexis‘ online virtual studio . Alexis is a yoga and barre instructor and general wellness guru. She launched her own virtual community studio during quarantine since she wasn’t able to teach at her brick and mortar studio. She has a catalog of classes online + offers live classes during the week too! You can try it out for FREE here!

And on the weekends, I’m still getting in at least one long (one hour-ish) walk. I shared an entire post on our workouts and at home workout gear here: My At Home Workouts & At Home Workout Gear.

One more piece of my wellness puzzle that I dove into this month, essential oils! I’ve used essential oils for over a year now but sparingly. I dove in this month! I’ve been diffusing different blends daily and even purchased mini diffusers for both my office and Michael’s office to replace candles. My big diffuser (pictured below) came in my Starter Kit. The Starter Kit has everything you need to dip your toes into the essential oils world! I’ve also used my peppermint oil (also included in the Starter Kit) on my temples to alleviate headaches, and it works!
