It’s hard to believe it’ll be June next week! In last month’s recap, I shared that I felt like April flew by even though I never left my house (with the exception of a grocery store pickup or two). May seemed to fly by just the same. Essentially all of spring was spent in quarantine. Craziness.

Depending on where you live, things are starting to open up more and more. Here in Houston, restaurants are at 50% capacity and gyms, hair salons, and retail shops are all open with a few restrictions in place. While it definitely makes me anxious, especially when I see people out and about without masks or not practicing social distancing in large groups, I’m happy to see things slowly opening up. It’s hard to know how to proceed without a vaccine in place yet. I keep reminding myself that everyone is doing their best to navigate this new normal.

On a lighter note, let’s take a look back at May and chat about a few lighter topics … the blog posts you loved, the items you clicked on the most, and more! If you’re interested in past Monthly Recaps, you can check them out here!

Travel Recap

While most of our weekends in May looked a lot like the photo above – grilling out on our deck – we did take a road trip to spend the long Memorial Day weekend with my parents, sister, and brother-in-law in Shreveport, Louisiana. Our first trip since quarantine began back in mid-March.

Michael and I went back and forth a million times on whether or not we should visit my fam in Shreveport for Memorial Day weekend. Houston, Texas, Shreveport, and Louisiana as a whole had been in phase one of reopening for a couple of weeks, and we hadn’t seen anyone we know in 70 days. Considering those factors, among others, we ultimately decided to make the short drive. I’m glad we went. It was so nice to see familiar faces and have a relaxing weekend at home. We didn’t do anything fancy. My parents have a great backyard so we spent most of the weekend hanging outside by the pool, on the back patio, and down by the bayou. 🙂

Wellness this Month

What better time to practice self care?!

My wellness practices over the past few weeks have included sticking with a daily workout routine – Michael and I have been doing at-home workouts in our empty dining room (knew that room would come in handy at some point!). I shared an entire post on our workouts and at home workout gear – My At Home Workouts & At Home Workout Gear.

We’ve mostly been doing free online Orange Theory classes and YogaWorks yoga classes.

We’ve also been going on daily walks. On the weekends, we’ve been going for longer walks and spending as much time as possible outside.

In addition to keeping up with workouts, moving on a daily basis, and prioritizing getting fresh air as much as possible, I’ve made my skincare routine a priority too. Might as well use all of these makeup free days to our advantage! My morning skincare routine includes these four products: Vitamin C Serum, Eye Cream, Antioxidant Soft Cream Moisturizer, and Tinted Matte SPF (all clean products!). I use my ice roller after my vitamin c serum, eye cream, and moisturizer but before my SPF. Full review of my ice roller here: How I Use My Amazon Ice Roller to De Puff My Face

I shared a couple of wellness-related blog posts this month that are definitely worth a read!

A Look Ahead to June

For the first time in … years? … Michael and I have no trips planned for the month of June. I’m hoping we’ll be able to take advantage of our time at home in Houston. I’d love to be able to at least dine on a patio at one of our favorite restaurants soon. Keeping my fingers crossed that we’re heading in the right direction with Covid.

Cheers to a new month and the official start to summer!
